Lismore Youth Week Celebrates Creativity and Culture with Exciting Workshops and Programs for 12-24 Year Olds


Express. Empower. Get Loud! Lismore Youth Week returns with a lineup of activities and workshops aimed at inspiring and empowering young people aged 12 to 24. From April 16 to April 20, young people are invited to immerse themselves in a week-long celebration of creativity, culture, and community.

This year's Youth Week promises something for everyone, with a diverse range of workshops designed to empower young people to Express themselves and Get Loud! From zine making to screenwriting, acting, and beyond, participants will have the opportunity to explore their interests, express themselves, and connect with like-minded peers.

PROGRAM:

Quad Offsite: On Country Forest and Forage
Where: Namabunda Farm (112 Whites Avenue, Alstonville)
When: Tuesday 16 April 10am – 3pm
What: Join us at Namabunda Farm to forage for native foods and fibres, cut down bananas with bush knives, plant some bush tucker trees and become a part of the Youngman Creek Big Scrub rainforest restoration story.

Quad Offsite: Jarjums on Paper
Where: Amarina Aboriginal Artist Run Initiative (Shop 1/126 Molesworth Street, Lismore)
When: Wednesday 17 April 10am – 1pm
What: Join artists Shannon Smith, Amarina Toby, and Susan Heywood to explore digital art, storytelling, drawing, natural crafts and more. Drop in throughout the day to participate in 1 or all 3 workshops.

Screenwriting and Film workshop
Where: Lismore Library Meeting Room, 44 Carrington Street, Lismore 2480
When: Wednesday 17 April 10am – 11am
What: This workshop will introduce you to the basics of writing and making films. It will be led by a surprise presenter who has written and directed three feature-length films, one of which won the Best Independent Film award at the 2019 AACTA Awards.

Zine Making Workshop (2 day workshop)
Where: Elevator ARI (3 Rural Street, Lismore)
When: Thursday 18 April + Saturday 20 April 1pm - 5pm
What: Join artist Chris Lego for a 2-day workshop on all things Zines! You will be able to explore a collection of zines from Lismore and around the world, and then create your own!

Acting workshop with Madeleine West
Where: Goonellabah Library (27 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah 2480)
When: Thursday 18 April 10-11am
What: Join Neighbours star Madeleine West to learn the art of telling stories with your voice and your body, on stage and on screen.
